KENYASI COMES OUT TO CLEAN

A clean environment and access to basic sanitation are essential for good health and enhanced quality of life.

In Ghana, private sanitation companies like Zoomlion Co. Limited are contracted by MMDA’s to provide sanitation services across cities and towns. However, at Asutifi North District Assembly, most complaints received currently from residents by the WASH desk are sanitation-related issues. Access to basic sanitation in the district is at 33%.

As such, The Asutifi North District Assembly as part of its Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) strategy on Tuesday 28th, March, 2023 organized a mass clean-up exercise through the principal streets of Kenyasi No. 1 and Kenyasi No. 2.

District Chief Executive, Honourable Anthony Mensah said, “This is the beginning of a monthly exercise. We are going to ensure we lead the charge to promote sanitation and improve the environment just as we have done with safe water provision”.

“This is going to be replicated in all communities within this district”, he added.

An Executive of Kenyasi Youth Association, Attah Sikidi said, "I believe this is not just about cleaning up the streets, we are building a healthier community and a better pathway for the future of this district".

The successful event received participation from Nananom, Assembly staff, and members, staff of Ghana Health Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Services, and National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Youth Groups, some private organizations, ANAM WASH Network members and community members.
